I hope you’re feeling really confident with your 3 basic lines from our last lesson, Line Drawing 1, because now we get to move up to organic and geometric lines! These lines help us understand positive and negative space, and I can’t wait for you to have fun learning this concept with me in art class.

The example of positive and negative space shown in the video can be viewed below or at the Supplemental Materials page.

  • a pencil
  • scissors
  • peeled crayons in different colors
  • a small stack of paper
  • 2 or more rubber bands in different sizes
  • 2 or more pieces of corrugated cardboard in different sizes

Optional supplies are:

  • an eraser
  • a pencil sharpener
  • a file folder or paperclip for organization

Practice, practice, practice!
