This week we’re going to take inspiration from the Japanese art of Manga! Using colorful construction paper, our previous lessons in color and symmetry take center stage when constructing these fun, fanciful, imaginary bugs.
To learn more about Manga, take some time to read through the information at these sites:
A Beginner’s Guide to Mange (NYPL)
Manga: Out of the Box (Google Arts and Culture)
Below, and at the Supplemental Materials page, are examples of manga-style eyes, which are so important to getting the look of these bugs just right, and 5 of my completed projects. I had so much fun with this, I couldn’t stop!
The materials you’ll need in this class are:
- A pencil
- White paper
- Black paper
- Construction paper (3 or more colors)
- Scissors
- White glue
- A tool for applying glue (toothpick or cotton swab)
Optional supplies are:
- A hole punch
- A black marker
- a file folder or paperclip for organization
Practice, practice, practice!
